Fool for Love

The Palms is already a roadside room; in August it becomes the set. The Karma Compound, a new Hi-Desert theatre company, stages Sam Shepard's Fool for Love as an immersive, drive-up theatrical experience in Wonder Valley, with public performances on Saturday, Aug. 8, Saturday, Aug. 15, and Sunday, Aug. 16. The play follows two former lovers pulled back into a brutal orbit of longing, obsession, and old damage. Karma Compound places that story back in the Mojave air that shaped it, asking the audience to arrive as part of the world rather than sit apart from it. Bring a camp chair, blankets, or a pickup tailgate and settle in under the night sky. Produced by Lette Allen and directed by Christi Waldon, the production features Allen as May, Deacon Ledges as Eddie, Michael D. Simpson as Martin, and Kevin Bone as The Old Man. Catt Christine and Mick Leonardy make up the live band. Box office and bar open at 7 p.m., the band begins at 7:15 p.m., audience arrival is requested by 7:30 p.m., and the play runs 8:15 to 9:30 p.m. The Palms stays open after for drinks until 11 p.m. Tickets start at $33, with $111 truck passes available for up to four guests.
