Creative Cafe pops up at the Food for Thought Cafe on the Joshua Tree Retreat Center grounds for a hands-on scratchboard session. Using a simple bamboo skewer, you’ll scratch through black ink to reveal bright silver lines—great for desert horizons, botanicals, or anything you imagine. All ages and skill levels welcome. All materials provided, with outdoor seating available. Led by Joshua Tree artist and educator Jillian Sandell. Drop-in, donation-based (suggested $5–$20). Food and drinks available for purchase but not required.

Creative Cafe returns to the Joshua Tree Retreat Center for an easygoing afternoon of desert-inspired creativity. This week’s Spring 2026 session focuses on Drawing Joshua Trees, inviting participants to study and sketch the iconic silhouettes that define the high desert skyline. Led by local teacher, writer, and artist Jillian Sandell, the drop-in gathering is open to all ages and experience levels—no drawing background required. All materials are provided, and you’re free to settle in for the full session or just stop by for a short burst of inspiration. When the weather cooperates, drawing takes place on the patio with views of the surrounding landscape; otherwise, the group meets inside the cozy Food for Thought Cafe.
