Field biologist Mike Medina leads an 11-mile ecology ride through Queen Valley and the backcountry dirt roads of Joshua Tree National Park. The group meets at Wall Street Mill Parking Lot at 8 a.m. Saturday, October 17, and rides until 1 p.m. Medina is an instructor, National Park Service volunteer and Preventative Search and Rescue team member.
The route is challenging to strenuous and is built for intermediate to experienced off-road cyclists ages 16 and older. Riders must supply a multi-speed bike with knobby tires at least 1.5 inches wide, a helmet, repair kit, water, food and cycling clothes. Pedal-assist e-bikes are allowed; throttle or moped-style e-bikes aren't. Transportation and equipment aren't included, and park admission is separate. Tickets are $45, plus a $3.05 fee.
