Wildlife ecologist Kurt Leuschner leads an early-morning birding and nature walk around Barker Dam in Joshua Tree National Park. The field experience runs from 7 to 9 a.m. Saturday, September 26, beginning at Barker Dam Parking Lot. Leuschner is a College of the Desert professor of Natural Resources.
Designed as an introduction, the walk covers less than two miles on established trails at a leisurely pace. Bring water, food, closed-toe shoes, hiking clothes, sun protection and a daypack. Binoculars are recommended. Transportation and equipment aren't included, and park admission is separate. Tickets are $40, plus a $2.85 fee.
