Wildlife ecologist Kurt Leuschner leads an evening field session on the desert's nocturnal insects at Black Rock Nature Center. The program runs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, September 26. Leuschner is a College of the Desert professor of Natural Resources.
The leisurely outing covers less than two miles, and the walking can be modified. Participants use light-colored sheets and lights to observe insects without collecting them. Bring water, layers, food, closed-toe shoes, a headlamp or flashlight, and one white or light-colored sheet per group. Youth younger than 12 must attend with an adult. No park entry is needed. Tickets are $40, plus a $2.85 fee.
